What is RAVENNAKIT?

RAVENNAKIT is a cross-platform Software Development Kit (SDK) for integrating audio-over-IP technology into your applications. It supports industry-standard audio-over-IP protocols RAVENNA, AES67, and SMPTE ST2110-30. Additionally, the SDK includes NMOS (IS-04 & IS-05) for device discovery and connection management, ST2022-7 for stream redundancy, and PTPv2 for precise time synchronization.

The SDK is written in modern C++17, and targets systems running macOS, Windows and Linux.

What is included?

RAVENNAKIT comes with a lot of implementations of several technologies to support the audio-over-IP compliance. This sections gives a high level overview of what is included.

RAVENNA

Full support for RAVENNA as specified by the RAVENNA protocol.

AES67

Full support for AES67 as specified by AES67-2023.

ST2110-30

Full support for ST2110-30:2017.

NMOS

NMOS IS-04 is supported for discovery and IS-05 for connection management.

RTP

An implementation of RTP and RTCP to support the main audio-over-IP protocols.

DNS-SD

Support for DNS-SD is included to support discovery on local networks. This is currently implemented for macOS and Windows, support for Linux is planned.

PTPv2

The SDK implements a virtual PTP follower based on IEEE1588-2019. Support for hardware timestamping on Linux is planned.

RTSP

An implementation of RTSP (client and server) is provided to support connection management for RAVENNA.

SDP

The session description protocol (parsing and generation) is implement to support signaling between devices.

Core utils

RAVENNAKIT offers a lot of core utilities to support all of the above. There are classes for working with audio buffers, audio formats, generic containers, streams, lock-free programming, integer wraparound, uri and much more.

Roadmap

At the moment we're working hard to get the SDK into production level quality.
After that we have many things we think would be nice to add, for example support for Xenomai/EVL, hardware timestamping and IPMX.
